Light Response Vehicles (LRV’s): Changing the Way We Chase Ambulances
City of Arlington, TX
Population: 367,000

Time: Wednesday April 18 - 11:00-12:15pm

This presentation details the steps the Arlington (TX) Fire Department took to implement LRV’s into our response system. Like most departments, 80% of the calls for service Arlington respond to are EMS related. That fact combined with a tight economic outlook, rising calls for service and an aggressive fleet maintenance contract provided an opportunity to explore different ways to provide service.

This program was implemented one year ago and while the department continually measures its effectiveness, the impact LRV’s had on the Arlington system includes: reduced mileage on the heavy fleet, reduced fuel consumption and a decrease in response times.

Attendees will learn:
• Identify what constitutes an LRV
• Identify how Arlington utilizes LRV’s
• Understand the impact an LRV had on Arlington’s Fleet maintenance contract
• Understand the impact an LRV had on Arlington’s EMS calls for service
• Identify how to fold LRV’s into your system
