Progressive Dinner
Tuesday evening, June 3
Details: Participants will be picked up from their hotels between 5-6 pm on Tuesday,
June 3, and taken to The Lazy Goat for appetizers. They will talk to Soby's Restaurant
for dinner, and then on to Restaurant O for dessert. At 9 pm, transportation will
be available for return to hotels.
Enjoy a "progressive dinner" with Table 301, a consortium of some of Greenville's
finest restaurants. For $50 (inclusive of tax and tips), become part of a progressive
dinner, including an appetizer at the Lazy Goat, dinner at Soby's New South Cuisine
and dessert at Restaurant O. All restaurants are within easy walking distance of
each other in downtown Greenville.
Welcome from a Favorite Son. Conference participants will be welcomed to town by
one of Greenville’s historic figures, Shoeless Joe Jackson, a veteran of the textile
baseball leagues who rose to prominence with his batting prowess and then fell into
notoriety through his linkage with the 1919 Chicago Black Socks scandal.
Jackson
is remembered with a statue at the West End Market, near Fluor Field in
the West End, where his
home serves as a museum on his life and accomplishments.
All American Evening. Conference participants will have an opportunity to enjoy
a minor league baseball game at award-winning Fluor
Field, home of the
Greenville Drive. This ticketed event will include admission to the baseball game, your choice
of sandwiches, and two drinks.
Shaggin’ On The Reedy. This beach music-themed outdoor event, held at the Wyche
Pavilion on the banks of the Reedy River, will feature music by the Embers, low-country
South Carolina foods such as shrimp and grits, a low-country boil, barbeque, and
pimento cheese sandwiches, all catered by Larkins on the River and served by some
“Carolina Girls” (best in the world). The evening will also feature Shaggin' dance lessons.
Shaggin,’
for the uninitiated, is the official State Dance of South Carolina.
Walk/Run
Downtown. Walkers and runners will be led on a 5K course around downtown Greenville on
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. The walk/run will depart at 6:30 am from the two conference hotels - the Westin Poinsett and the Hyatt Regency. T-shirts will be provided
as a memento to help all the participants remember their experience in downtown
Greenville.
