Conference Testimonials "The TLG Conference is by far one of the best professional development opportunities I attend each year. Every session I have participated in at TLG has been fantastic and the opportunities to network with my peers are endless. Many great things have happened in our City as a result of the knowledge gained at this conference and through our work with the Alliance." Holly Eskridge, Assistant to the City Manager, Rock Hill, SC
"I think the outstanding sentiment about the TLG conference is the fact
that it provides the opportunity to experience the community of
government purpose. The learning workshops, the speakers, and the
various sessions provided give the participants new energy and a sense
of reinforced commitment. Those who attended will surely carry that
energy and commitment back to their own respective cities." "You worked hard as a dynamic team to deliver us “top-notch” speakers, topics, resources and network opportunities…one of the best, most motivating conferences I have attended in a long time.
"I
go to the TLG conference because it makes me think. The TLG
conference is a great way to encourage organizational development of
your team." Bob LaSala, County Manager, Pinellas County, FL |

The 2011 Transforming Local Government
Conference: A Board Member's Reflection
Jim Holgersson, Arlington, TX City Manager and Member of the
Alliance for Innovation Board of Directors
5 July 2011 - Managers from across the Country know that Florida City
Managers are and have been on the cutting edge of innovation for many
years: the “birthplace” for TLG (Transforming Local Government)
was in Florida. Florida is also home to a very strong and vibrant
network of City and County Mangers who form a very strong Florida City
and County Managers Association (FCCMA). So when the Alliance for
Innovation teamed up with FCCMA for their annual conference, one would
expect a very terrific experience.
As I traveled to the Transforming Local Government / FCCMA Conference on
June 1 it was with great anticipation, and I must tell you, the
programs, the speakers and the networking represented for me one of the
best and most meaningful experiences I have ever had.
When you attend a conference you don’t always get the sessions that
align with your needs and interests. The 2011 conference did a great job
of presenting topics that were best practices and innovations that were
right on target--the kinds of things you can take home and share.
Presenters represented cities from across the country on such topics as
private/public partnerships in running sports facilities, best cases on
how to partner with non-profits in meeting community service needs,
creating stronger community from and there was even a case study on new
techniques for repairing sidewalks that can reduce costs. Well over 20
case studies and presentations were offered.
Having been in City management for 35 years, you can imagine how many
conferences I have attended, but without a doubt the TLG/FCCMA
Conference brought value to the work we do. I look forward the next
State partnership when TLG partners with the Kansas City & Missouri
Managers! Kansas City here I come! |
